West Brom board provide die-hard fans with free drinks and shirts in Hong Kong
Albion’s die-hard fans in Hong Kong have been given free drinks and a free shirt from the Baggies board today and are now being bussed to training to meet the players.
Chairman John Williams and legendary full-back Brendon Batson met just under 50 supporters at The Queen Victoria pub in Wan Chai.
Fans got a chance to mingle with the board before the club organised a 49-seater bus to take them all to Tony Pulis’s evening training session. And it was a gesture that went down well with supporters.
Speaking from Hong Kong, Baggies fan David James said: “I think those of us here very much appreciated the gesture by the club.
"Folk have come a long way and at considerable cost to follow their team, so the fact it is acknowledged and appreciated, means a lot.
“Everybody got a gift and the club has arrange a bus to take us all to this evening’s training session to meet the players.
“The chairman put his credit card behind the bar but I won’t repeat what he said when I ordered a bottle of Bollinger!”
Paul Dubberley added: “Everyone got a shirt. To be honest, WBA were very good, bought drinks for everyone and chatted.
"They were very friendly and down to earth and I think everyone appreciated it – and the opportunity to go to the training session. Well done WBA.”
Chairman John Williams told the Express & Star: "Everybody had an enjoyable time.
"The supporters are the lifeblood of the club and the very least they can expect when they display such devotion at such expense in the chance to have a drink and chat with those of us privileged to work inside the club.
"We had a great time and I hope they enjoyed it as much as we did."
Albion play Crystal Palace in the third-place play-off of the Premier League Asia Trophy at the Hong Kong Stadium tomorrow. Kick-off is 11am UK time.
