Clubs from the top two leagues in England will enter U21 teams in the trophy, as they will take on the 48 League One and League Two teams also competing.

The selection criteria for invited U21 teams is ‘six players from the starting 11 must be under the age of 21 as of 30th June 2017.’

The EFL confirmed the decision online, with a full list of teams issued.

West Brom join the likes of Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City and Spurs in the Trophy.

The Baggies failed to progress in the competition last season, losing all three of their games as they became one of the first Premier League teams to exit in 2016/17.
