The face of the midfielder will greet passengers every day in Derry, Northern Ireland, after people of the city picked him to feature on the Bus of Legends.

McClean was one of three of Derry's heroes chosen from a shortlist of six, beating former Northern Ireland footballer and Villa manager Martin O'Neill and the band The Undertones.

Irish musician Phil Coutler and Hollywood actress Roma Downey will also appear on the bus alongside McLean, who is pictured on the bus in a Baggies shirt.

Transport firm Translink unveiled the double decker to the public at a ceremony in the Guildhall Square, Derry.

McClean said: "I was completely overwhelmed with pride when I was told I was chosen by the people of my home town to receive this honour.

"I am so proud of where I come from and I truly believe Derry is the best place in the world. I am delighted to be considered in the same company as Roma Downey and Phil Coulter who I have great admiration for.”

Entrants had to have been successful in their field, have a strong allegiance to Derry and be non-political.

As well as his performances on the football field, McLean has made several notable contributions to charity, including in Derry.

McClean joined Albion in 2015 following a £1.5 million move from Wigan and has become a key part of Tony Pulis' team.

Despite hailing from Derry, the 28-year-old has played more than 50 times for the Republic of Ireland national team.

He married long-term partner Erin in the city last year and has two children, Allie-Mae, three, and Junior, who is one.
