West Brom suffer double injury blow

Albion have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of this weekend's game with Leicester after Matt Phillips and Hal Robson-Kanu picked up suspected hamstring problems.

Both players limped out of training yesterday and are expected to miss this Saturday's match at The Hawthorns.

The pair will be assessed this week in order to find out the severity of their respected injuries, but with less than four weeks to go until the end of the season, Albion are hoping neither will be out for long.

It's a cruel blow for both players. Phillips has only recently returned from a previous hamstring injury that kept him out for five games.

He played one half against Watford on his return, an hour against Southampton, and then completed his first 90 minutes since his lay-off last time out against Liverpool.

Robson-Kanu, meanwhile, has started four of the last six games ahead of Salomon Rondon after being forced to bide his time on the bench for most of the campaign.

Before that, the Wales International had only started one game all season.

It means Rondon is in line to start against Craig Shakespeare's side this Saturday, when the Baggies will go five games without a goal if they fail to find the net. The Venezuelan hasn't scored for Albion in more than four months but he is the only senior striker available.

Chris Brunt or James McClean are likely to replace Phillips on the wing, and if Tony Pulis opts for Brunt, he will reinstate Allan Nyom at left-back.

Although Robson-Kanu is devastated by his own injury, he will be cheering on Rondon.

"We push each other, we're developing each other's game and we want each other to do well," he said recently, when asked about their rivalry. "When the other scores there's that terrific camaraderie within the group."

Robson-Kanu has one year left on the two-year deal he signed last summer, and contrary to reports he has not been offered a new contract yet.
