West Brom transfer news: Watford dismiss Troy Deeney links
Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has dismissed speculation linking striker Troy Deeney with a summer transfer to Albion.
Reports over the weekend suggested the Baggies, who face Watford tomorrow night, were ready to break their transfer record this summer to land the 28-year-old Birmingham-born former Walsall hitman with figures of £20m being banded about.
But Mazzarri claims there is little mileage in the speculation and insists Deeney, who joined Watford in 2010 and has 105 goals for the club, remains settled in Hertfordshire.
“We are not interested in these stories, they are just rumours. I do not want to think about these things,” Mazzarri said. “He has always been happy and nothing has changed.”
Ten weeks from the end of the season I am not thinking about that [transfers].
“We have 27 points until the end of the season and all we need to think about is treating every game as a final. The manager makes his choices and the players need to follow.”
With Deeney’s focus apparently unaffected by being linked with the Midlands club, the 28-year-old could be in line for a return to first team action on Tuesday night.
He was an unused sub during Saturday’s vital 1-0 win over Sunderland after suffering with illness during the international break, but Mazzarri confirmed he trained well on Sunday.

National reports claim West Brom are ready to break their transfer record in an attempt to take the Hornets skipper away from Vicarage Road, with figures in the region of £20m being quoted.
