Saido Berahino admits he was 'lost' at West Brom and issues apology to fans
Saido Berahino has admitted he spent the last 18 months "lost" at Albion.
Speaking for the first time since his £15million move to Stoke, the striker issued an apology to Baggies supporters for his behaviour over his final months at The Hawthorns, during which he made more headlines for his actions off the field than on it.
From the fringes of the England set-up, Berahino drifted into the background, infamously threatening to go on strike when he was denied a move to Tottenham in 2015.
"West Brom fans deserve an apology from me for what has gone on," said Berahino. "But I never had a problem with the manager Tony Pulis or the players.
"I'm only 23 – I'm still learning. Everyone has a part to blame in what went on but it's all over now."
Berahino, who was born in Burundi, burst onto the scene when he scored 20 goals during the 2014/15 campaign for Albion, the club he first joined age 11.
Yet a string of off-field misdemeanours culminated in a public threat to strike when then Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace rejected four bids from Spurs during the January transfer window.
After that, Berahino gradually fell down the pecking order at The Hawthorns and faced criticism from Pulis over his fitness earlier this term before moving to Stoke last week, in a deal worth an initial £12million.
He is now eager to make the most of the fresh start. He added: "I was lost. It was hard for me. All I ever wanted to do was play football. Now this is my chance to do that."
