West Brom table third contract offer to Saido Berahino that would triple his wages
Troubled striker Saido Berahino has been offered a sensational new contract that will triple his wages, despite not featuring for Albion since September.
The Baggies have returned to the 23-year-old with a huge third offer head coach Tony Pulis described as 'fantastic'.
Not only would the deal increase Berahino's pay to around £60,000-a-week, it also includes a buy-out clause believed to be north of £20million that would allow the striker to leave should another club come calling.
Albion are attempting to safeguard their asset, who could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season when his current contract runs out.
But Berahino is eager to jump ship and has already rejected two contract offers new chairman John Williams has tabled this season.
"We've made Saido an offer and we're trying to get him to sign," confirmed Pulis. "It's a fantastic offer. It's up to him and his people to come back and negotiate.
"This is the third new offer we have made to Saido so we'll see what happens. We're hoping they come back and we get the deal done and he gets his mind back on playing football."
Berahino has been the subject of speculation for the past four transfer windows, but he's only scored one Premier League goal in 2016 and has been left out of the squad for the past 11 games.
He was recently sent to a sports psychologist in France to clear his head after admitting to 'feeling depressed and struggling for focus'.
Pulis has urged him to sign his bumper new contract because of the buyout clause that allows him to leave if Albion's price-tag is matched.
"I said four windows ago if I was Saido I would have signed it," he said. "You could have a buyout clause in the contract so if someone came in and offered the money that the club wanted he could leave.
"All that stuff has been put to him and his representatives. We'll see what happens."
An academy product who has been at Albion since the age of 11, Berahino has fallen out of love with the Baggies and has already rejected two offers this season.
Albion are trying to stop him leaving on a free transfer, but Pulis says the club also tabled this third contract because they believe Berahino still has the potential to be a first-class finisher.
"He's a talented player," said Pulis. "It shows how talented he is because the club are still making him offers now."
However, the Baggies head coach left the door open for a January exit if no deal could be agreed. Everton are reportedly interested, although Albion are yet to receive a bid.
"We'll wait and see," said Pulis. "Every window has brought speculation and we have another four or five weeks to get through that."
Although Berahino featured for the under-23s against Wolves earlier this month, he hasn't made a first-team squad since the start of October.
He's unlikely to play over the weekend, even though Albion have two games in three days.
"We don't want him coming back and getting injured again," said Pulis. "From not playing for a long time and then going into games, there is that concern.
"He's been out a long time, but there's been a lot of stuff going on with Saido, it's not just one issue."
