Darren Fletcher: West Brom will give Chelsea a game

Captain Darren Fletcher insists Albion will go toe-to-toe with high-flying Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Antonio Conte's team are on red-hot form at the top of the Premier League, having won their last eight league games in a row, scoring 22 goals and conceding just two.

Fletcher admits he couldn't have picked a tougher game if he tried, but he promised supporters the in-form Baggies – who are unbeaten in four themselves – wouldn't just meekly roll over.

And he reckons Albion have both the ability and the pedigree against so-called bigger teams to cause an upset against the league-leaders.

"It is the toughest game in the league right now, there is no doubt about that," said Fletcher. "But we go into it in good form and in good confidence.

"They have won eight in a row. Can we go and be the team to stop that run and keep our run going? That is the challenge."

Last season the Baggies drew 2-2 with Chelsea at the Bridge in an end-to-end tie that could have gone either way.

Craig Gardner cancelled out Cesar Azpilicueta's opener before James McClean grabbed a late equaliser after Gareth McAuley had turned the ball into his own net.

In January, Albion took the game to the then-champions, and even though Fletcher admitted Conte had improved Chelsea, he promised Albion fans the team would not fear their hosts on this occasion either.

"We have done well (against big teams) since I have been here and the manager has been here," said Fletcher. "Our form against the big sides has been very good. We did very well at Chelsea last year.

"I think they are different beast this year but it is a great challenge for us.

"We will go there and give it a right go and try and keep doing what we are doing and get the result."

Although the Baggies went 29 years without beating Chelsea from 1983 to 2012, their recent record against the Pensioners is healthy.

They've only lost three out of the last nine meetings with Roman Abrahamovic's moneyed side.
