Matt Phillips: West Brom have given me a 'new lease of life'
Matt Phillips says joining Albion has given him a 'new lease of life' but now he's eager to kick on further and add goals to his game.
The 25-year-old winger has started every competitive match for the Baggies since joining from Queens Park Rangers for £5million.
His performances have steadily improved, and last time out he laid on an assist for Nacer Chadli at Sunderland. But the pacy wideman, who's delighted to be back in the Premier League, has watched on enviously as the rest of Albion's front four get on the scoresheet.
Nacer Chadli and Salomon Rondon each have three goals while James McClean has already scored two. Phillips reckons it's time he joined the party.
"I love crossing, I love beating my man, but also I need to add more goals to my game," he said. "The manager has said that he believes in me, believes I can do that, so hopefully that will come. The last two or three games we've created a lot of chances. Me and James are quick and Nacer knows how to find that pass that gets you in.
"It's looking exciting as it is, but it's only a matter of time before we start seeing more. The more we get to know each other, the more things will happen."
While many of Albion's senior players are currently away on international duty, Phillips has been at the training ground this week.
Although he qualifies for Scotland through his grandparents and has four caps for the country, he wasn't named in Gordon Strachan's squad ahead of Saturday's match with Lithuania and tonight's game against Slovakia.
"I always believe that I can bring something to the side," he said. "It's up to the manager at the time whether he's going to pick me or not.
"I'm just concentrating on my form at West Brom, enjoying being here.
"It's given me a new lease of life coming here. I'm really enjoying it and I'm happy every day. It was a bit of a slow start for the first couple of games but it gave me something to build on.
"I'm in the manager's starting XI which is great for me. I've grown into it and I'm looking to get my best form going."
