West Brom transfer news: Albion chasing West Ham's £15m star Diafra Sakho
West Brom are moving to make West Ham striker Diafra Sakho their second signing of the summer as they prepare to unveil Matt Phillips today.
The Baggies have been put on red alert by Sakho staying in the UK while the Hammers fly out to America for a pre-season tour.
It's claimed the 26-year-old has not travelled because he's suffering from a back injury, but it's no secret the striker is eager to leave the London club this summer after a frustrating season.
He pulled out of West Ham's squad in April with an alleged knee injury, when it was widely reported that the real reason behind the decision was his annoyance at being named on the bench.
Sakho is one of Albion's primary targets up front, and the club have registered their interest with West Ham.
However, the Hammers want £15million for the former Metz sharpshooter and Albion will be forced to wait until Slaven Bilic buys another striker before talks go any further.
Phillips underwent medical tests at the training ground yesterday and his signing is expected to be announced by the club today. He joins from QPR for a fee in the region of £5m after a drawn-out 18-month pursuit. The 25-year-old winger is expected to sign a three-year deal at The Hawthorns.
Albion have been linked with Leeds vice-captain Liam Cooper but the Express & Star understands the club are more interested in his team-mate Charlie Taylor.
Both players can play left-back, a position Albion need to strengthen, although Cooper is traditionally a centre-back. Taylor can also play on the wing.
Meanwhile, Watford are planning to swoop in with an offer for Saido Berahino after talks between Albion and Stoke reached a stalemate.
The Baggies want at least £20m for the forward and the Potters were only willing to offer £16m. The Hornets are expected to make a bid this week.
