West Brom's James McClean involved in Instagram spat

West Brom winger James McClean has become embroiled in a social media spat with Sunderland defender Lamine Kone.

The pair clashed during Saturday's goalless draw at the Stadium of Light after McClean was brought on for Craig Gardner in the 71st minute.

After the game, the French-born Ivorian sparked the tiff by posting a photo on his Instagram page.

It came with the caption: "We deserved better (again) yesterday. But we finally did a clean sheet. By the way, who is James McClean?"

The Republic of international responded to the question via his own Instagram page, posting a photo from the match of Kone on the floor with himself in the background.

McClean captioned the photo: "The guy that put you on your backside big fella @laminekone_23, some say you're still laying there."

But things didn't end there and Kone responded again via his Instagram page.

The 27-year-old said: "I didn't see McClean playing, sorry. Is he the bench0warmer who beat me in the back? Next time you'll need two like you in front to hurt me."

Once again McClean retaliated, but this time he riled up Sunderland fans too.

He posted a photo of himself making his way into the Stadium of Light, with a broad smile on his face and supporters in the background.

The caption read: "That face you make when you have more prem goals than the guy trying to mug you off has in prem appearances, wins and teeth the whole of Sunderland have combined. Good night god bless."

The winger spent two seasons at the Black Cats before joining Wigan Athletic and then Albion but he's not popular in the North-East, where his decision not to wear a poppy drew heavy criticism.

The 26-year-old from Derry was booed on Saturday.
