Bomber Brown says West Brom goals will come
Tony 'Bomber' Brown thinks Albion's second goal against Arsenal is an encouraging sign of things to come.
Albion's all-time record goalscorer says the team are starting to look more threatening at The Hawthorns after a stodgy start.
The attitude and application of Salomon Rondon and James McClean particularly impressed him.
"The second goal was a terrific goal from our point of view," said Bomber.
"Rondon on that left-hand side first of all made a great charge forward with the ball to stretch Arsenal and McClean did absolutely brilliant to take it on the overlap.
"He could have just sat back and thought 'get on with it' but he didn't, he pushed himself.
"It takes a lot of hard work that does and he went on the overlap, got that little bit of space and put in a great cross.
"I know it was an own goal but if Rondon and McClean don't do that work on the far side you don't get the cross in and you don't get the own goal.
"I give them a lot of credit for the winner."
Head coach Tony Pulis has been criticised by some fans this season for his defensive style but against Arsenal his tactics were spot on.
In the first half especially, Albion were dangerous on the counter-attack.
McClean's hard work on the left wing has not gone unnoticed, and the Irish wideman is quickly turning into a fans' favourite.
Bomber reckons his desire to get to the byline will reap more dividends as the season carries on.
"If you can get in wide positions, overlaps, get round the backs of defenders and cross the ball in, they're a nightmare for defenders to deal with," said Brown, who found the net 279 times in his 20-year Albion career.
"Especially across the six-yard box area, and that's what he did.
"There's a little bit of panic from Arsenal and he got the deflection and that wins you the game."
The 70-year-old club legend also praised defender Jonas Olsson on his impressive return to the side.
The Big Swede played so well he was named in an Italian newspaper's European team of the week.
"He came in and defended ever so well, got close to the strikers and didn't let them play," said Bomber. "I thought he was solid.
"Gareth McAuley has done brilliant for us, unfortunately he was suspended, but to have Jonas come in and play like that is an added bonus. Tony Pulis must be well pleased with his big centre-halves."
Olsson has been out of the team since he picked up a groin injury against Everton in September.
McAuley and Jonny Evans have been superb at the back and Pulis usually sticks with the same team.
After the game, Olsson said he was hoping to get more minutes over the busy Christmas period because he expects Pulis to rotate his squad a bit more.
"That's the way the modern game is," said Bomber.
"People say I'm old fashioned but I don't think you should disrupt a winning side that's playing well.
"But the modern way of thinking is you rest people.
"It's nice for Tony Pulis especially to have players that you can rotate and will do very similar jobs to the one the people are replacing."
