Downing, who as a player was also part of Wolves' 1988 Sherpa Vans Trophy-winning side, left the Hawthorns in January this year following the arrival of Tony Pulis as head coach.

The 50-year-old worked with the Baggies academy and first-team becoming assistant head coach under Steve Clarke and Alan Irvine, while he also took the reigns at the Hawthorns in a caretaker capacity at the end of 2013-14 season.

Aidy Boothroyd, who had been in charge of England under-20s, has taken charge of the under-19s.
