Ideye netted the 82nd-minute winner after Charleston's Navion Boyd had cancelled out Berahino's 42nd-minute opener.

It was a useful workout for Albion against the USL outfit in front of a noisy crowd in intense heat and humidity.

Albion went close in the opening moments when a cross from the right by Craig Gardner found Berahino, whose goal-bound header was cleared off the line by Shawn Ferguson.

And, as the Baggies dominated the opening few minutes, Craig Dawson sent a free header over the crossbar from six yards from a cross by James McClean.

Berahino burst clear moments later but was halted by a fine challenge from Taylor Muellar before Maikel Chang cleared the bar after skipping through the Baggies defence.

Albion took the lead on 42 minutes when Berahino collected a forward ball and played a one-two with Victor Anichebe before finishing crisply.

McClean fired just over for Albion but Battery drew level on 57 minutes when Boyd collected a crossfield ball and beat Boaz Myhill from the edge of the area.

Myhill produced an excellent save to deny Heviel Cordoves after a cross by Austin Savage.

The Baggies grabbed the winner with eight minutes to go when Ideye arrived unmarked at the far post to head home a free-kick by Craig Gardner.
