Johnny Giles: West Brom should sell Saido

West Brom legend Johnny Giles today told the club to sell star striker Saido Berahino.

The 21-year-old is understood to have enraged the Hawthorns hierarchy after giving an unauthorised interview earlier this week in which he revealed his desire to move "on to bigger things."

And while reports the Baggies 14-goal top scorer had been transfer listed were premature, the issue looks increasingly likely to be revisited in the summer.

The latest gaffe is from a player who has made several blunders in the last 18 months. In the short term, Berahino is likely to be fined for giving the interview without permission from the club.

And Giles, a former player and manager at the Hawthorns, is in no doubt over what action head coach Tony Pulis should now take.

He said: "I think, if I were Tony, I would take the money and let him go. His heart just doesn't seem to be in it.

"When you are making statements, talking about where you want to go next, it tells the manager a lot."

Berahino had been linked with moves to Liverpool and Tottenham during January, but Albion did not receive any bids.

In his interview, Berahino claimed supporters would give him their blessing if he scores the goals to keep the club in the Premier League.

But Giles added: "He thinks supporters will understand and give him their blessing, but the supporters don't understand.

"The last thing supporters want to hear from their top scorer is how he wants to move."

Berahino's interview came little more than a fortnight after chairman Jeremy Peace praised the frontman for turning his season around.

It came after a difficult period in which the player lost form and was convicted of drink driving.
