Tony Pulis' West Brom revamp going to wire
Boss Tony Pulis' revamp of West Brom's squad looks set to go down to the wire after he hailed the signing of "unplayable" winger Callum McManaman.
Pulis is targeting more new faces but, with just three days to go in the January transfer window, the Baggies face a race against time to land their targets.
Albion still want at least one striker before Monday's 11pm deadline, with Pulis also keen to strengthen in midfield and at left-back.
He is also eyeing more wide players, but the Hawthorns head coach is uncertain how many deals he will complete.
He said: "How close is close when you're doing deals. In the past I've been so far down the line with certain things that you can't believe they've fallen through, but they have.
"And then I've been miles away from thinking I could do something then all of a sudden one phone call switches you on and you're signing someone that you never believed you could get.
"You don't sleep much! If we do the business, what we want in the next 48 hours, then I can have a good Monday.
"If not then up, until the last minute, we'll be hoping and praying that we can get someone it that will improve what we need to improve to give us a chance.
"If the window closed now we'd be a little bit disappointed. We're still looking to strengthen a few other areas if we can."
Albion still hope Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher will choose them over West Ham to join McManaman.
Pulis has been keen on the latter since he starred for Wigan in their 2-1 FA Cup win over the Baggies boss' Crystal Palace side last January.
He said: "He was unplayable that day. The great thing about him is he's a goalscorer as well. We want players who can score and we need to get more of them into our team."
"I've brought him here because I believe he will eventually be a very good player. I think about when he ripped us to bits one day when he played against us for Wigan.
"He was outstanding. I like wide players who can run down the pitch and beat people. It's exciting for the team and exciting for the spectators."
