The Baggies battled to a goalless draw at Goodison Park but Pulis, who has overseen two wins and a draw in all competitions, still wants more from his side.

He said: "We have to do a lot of things better and we have to do it quickly because we need the points. We were poor on the change-over and we have to improve on that.

"We can't keep giving the ball back to them because eventually they will punish you.

"The effort, commitment and shape of the team was very good but when get the ball we have to get better passes to get us up the pitch."

Albion put in a resolute defensive performance, although they were grateful for Kevin Mirallas' penalty miss just before the break.

And Pulis confirmed he still wants new faces in during the transfer window."I am more concerned about bringing a few in (than going out), added the former Stoke and Crystal Palace boss.

"There are certain areas within the pitch and within the group that we have to improve to enable us to be better in possession of the ball.

"We do need a little bit of pace out wide, without a question of a doubt."

Defender Joleon Lescott hailed Albion's resilience after grinding out the draw.

The result extended the Baggies' unbeaten start under new boss Pulis to three games without conceding a goal.

And former Toffees defender Lescott said: "I think you can see we are a lot more resilient and the manager has told us how important clean sheets are.

"We've kept three in his first thee games so it's a good start and we can build on that. But we've always been confident about staying up with the ability we have in our squad."
