Former Wigan and Derby boss Paul Jewell is poised to join Albion's backroom staff this week after Tony Pulis staged a clearout behind the scenes.

Jewell is set to join Dave Kemp and Gerry Francis in a new-look coaching teamafter Keith Downing, Dean Kiely and Rob Kelly were axed two games into Pulis's reign.

Kemp, who served as Pulis's No.2 at Stoke and Crystal Palace, is effectively already in place with the Baggies finalising his title and contract package and Francis is expected to be used on a part-time basis.

And Jewell, who has been out of football since leaving his role as Ipswich manager in 2012, will join as a first-team coach, leaving Pulis needing just a goalkeeping coach to finalise his off-field line-up, although former Stoke keeper Carlo Nash has been linked with the role.

Jewell, aged 50, came close to joining Pulis at Stoke and the pair are set to link up in time for Saturday's home game with Hull.

Director of football administration Richard Garlick said: "The club would like to place on record its appreciation for the contribution of Keith, Rob and Dean.

"Changes in personnel are part of football life and it is obviously sad to say farewell to three popular and respected members of staff.

"We wish to thank them for their efforts and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours."

Former Wolves midfielder Downing joined the Baggies as an academy coach in 2009 and was promoted to the first team under Roy Hodgson.

Kiely spent eight years with the Baggies as a player and coach, while Kelly joined in the summer alongside Alan Irvine.
