The Teesside-born outside left joined the Baggies from Leicester City for £20,000 in 1958 and went on to score 12 goals in 87 appearances in just over two years at the Hawthorns.

Hogg had previously spent six successful years at Filbert Street and went on to play for Cardiff City and Kettering Town.

Albion supporters' club chairman John Homer said: "There were high hopes when the club paid quite a bit of money for him.

"But, for whatever reason, he was never quite able to find the form he'd had at Leicester, where he was on the verge of an England call-up.

"He was very popular with the players, who thought he was a good character, and he went on to have some very good games against us later in his career."
