Speaking after their 1-0 win over American third-tier outfit Sacramento Republic last night, Irvine is poised to welcome the England Under-21 internationa.

Wisdom completed his season-long move from Anfield and could play in their second friendly on Friday, with technical director Terry Burton rubber-stamping the deal.

He said: "I'm hoping that he's going to be on a flight here tomorrow, I'm hoping he will have a couple of sessions on Wednesday, and possibly with a view to playing but that hasn't been confirmed yet."

Irvine also confirmed there had been talks between West Brom and Norwegian club Rosenborg over Costa Rican defender Cristian Gamboa.

He added: "There's been some dialogue between the clubs, again if couldn't say for sure whether that's progressed, that's one for Terry.

"When I got up this morning I was hoping to hear some more about that but I haven't heard anything yet. That's the problem with the time difference."

Despite Albion's poor performance against Sacramento on Monday night, Irvine felt his troops handled the third-tier side well.

He's pleased with how his players are coming on - but was not happy with Craig Gardner's dismissal shortly before full time for a second yellow card.

He added: "The sending off was poor, I have to say I had been warned what might happen, so it didn't come as a complete surprise.

"The game was always going to be a tough test because they are right in the middle of a season, they've played a lot of games, they are obviously at their peak at this time so it was always going to be difficult for us. The heat at the start of the game was a problem as well.

"It was about getting some more fitness, it was about some players playing 90 minutes which a number of them did. For some of them that was a big step up because they had only played 45 so far, so that was a big test for them.

"Sebastian Pocognoli said it was the first game he had played for four months, which is obviously a big test.

"And we are still where I would expect us to be in terms of the technical side of the game and the tactical side."
