Jeremy Peace to stay out of firing line as new West Brom boss unveiled tomorrow

Jeremy Peace is set to avoid questions when new boss Alan Irvine is unveiled tomorrow as a fans' protest against the chairman gathers momentum.

Irvine will be presented to the media at noon tomorrow after Peace's controversial decision to choose him as Pepe Mel's successor. But Peace will not appear with new technical director Terry Burton set to face the music instead.

Meanwhile, fans are organising a peaceful protest against the running of the club on Saturday at The Hawthorns with Sandwell's council leader set to take part.

Councillor Darren Cooper, a season ticket holder in the Birmingham Road End, said: "It is a peaceful demonstration at 10am at The Hawthorns. "We don't want idiots turning up shouting 'Peace Out'.

"But we do want fans to come to The Hawthorns and protest peacefully and show the club that they're not happy with how the club was run last season and to tell the chairman that they want him to listen. If he doesn't, and if he isn't interested in the club anymore, then he should sell it, or at least try to sell it."

Peace has not spoken at a press conference since the unveiling of Roberto Di Matteo in 2009.

Since 2009 the chairman and majority shareholder has spoken publicly twice at end-of-season awards dinners and given just two interviews – including one to the Express & Star.

Fans are fuming that Irvine was appointed and many have claimed on social media that they will demand refunds on their season tickets. Around 16,000 fans renewed season tickets.

Councillor Cooper said: "There is a lot of unrest surrounding the appointment and a poll in the Express & Star found that 83 per cent of fans were against it.

"It shouldn't be left to Terry Burton to come out and explain the appointment. Jeremy Peace should explain it to us. The club have become aloof and Jeremy Peace doesn't speak to the media anymore or speak at fans' forums."
