Billy Jones happy to wait for West Brom talks

Albion face uncertainty over Billy Jones' future with the defender set to become a free agent this summer.

The 27-year-old's contract expires in June and talks have yet to bring any agreement between the two parties.

Jones has been with the Baggies for three years and would like to stay at The Hawthorns.

But he is happy to wait until the end of the season when, as now seems almost certain, the club's Premier League future will be assured.

Asked about his future, the former Crewe and Preston full-back said: "It's the same as it was.

"It's just about waiting until the summer now and making sure we get safe and everyone is concentrating on that.

"I'm just concentrating on staying up with Albion and going from there."

Jones admitted he wants to speak to the club, adding: "Of course, yes. But I'm just concentrating on West Bromwich Albion remaining a Premier League team and going from there."

Saturday's 1-0 win over West Ham put Albion four points clear of the drop zone with three games left, one match more than each of the bottom three.

Jones is refusing to set a safety target, however, as they prepare for Sunday's trip to Arsenal.

"To be honest I don't know. We've got three big games and we feel, if we turn up as an XI, we can win any game," he said.

"So we've got a few more winnable games and we'll see where it takes us."

Arsenal go into the game having beaten Newcastle 3-0 last night but Jones insists Albion can upset the Gunners if they're on their game.

"We've done well against the bigger clubs and we always feel we can do well in games where you have to be at it as an XI," he said.

"Maybe it's a less high-pressure game than West Ham and everyone would expect us to get beaten going to the Emirates but we're confident we'll have a gameplan and, if we stick with it, we can get something from the game."

Position

And Jones insists he is happy to continue playing left-back with Liam Ridgewell sidelined.

"I have fond memories of playing at left-back in my debut against Wolves and then a win at Villa the week after, so I'm happy to fill in there," he said.

"Right-back is my position and I feel a lot more natural there but if I've got to fill in at left-back again between now and the end of the season I'm more than happy to do so."
