Ally Robertson: Pressure on Manchester United can play into West Brom's favour

Albion legend Ally Robertson today urged the Baggies to take advantage of Manchester United's struggles when they go in search of an historic double tomorrow.

Robertson, a veteran of Albion's last double against United 35 years ago, says his old club must use the pressure on David Moyes and his players in their favour at The Hawthorns.

Albion have won just once in their last 17 league games, but defending Premier League champions United have suffered a difficult first season under Moyes and lost 2-0 to Olympiakos in the Champions League in their last game.

Former centre-back Robertson, who played 626 times for the Baggies, said: "Manchester United are under major pressure at the moment so it's important we don't let them settle early on.

"We need to get right into them from the start and try to add to the pressure we are already under.

"It's not essential, but if we could get the first goal it would be massive because they would get even more nervous, and if we could get the second we would be in dreamland.

"They are under pressure because of the results they've been getting and we are under pressure because of where we are in the league but we need to use that to help us."

Albion sealed their double in 1979 with a 1-0 home win, courtesy of a Cyrille Regis goal, after claiming their famous 5-3 success at Old Trafford.

Robertson said: "The second game was at the end of the season and we were third or fourth in the table so there wasn't a lot for us to play for, although there is always pressure when you play Manchester United.

"There is more pressure on the team this time, but more pressure on United too."

Albion sit just a point above the Premier League drop-zone with 11 games remaining and Robertson is calling for a settled team to help the club avoid relegation.

"The manager needs to put his neck on the block and say 'this is my team' and stick with it so they can get an understanding," he said.
