Super Kevin Phillips prepares to try and disappoint West Brom fans
Albion favourite Kevin Phillips today admitted he must try to disappoint fans who will give him a hero's welcome as he bids a fond farewell to The Hawthorns on Saturday.
The veteran striker will make one final appearance at the Baggies' home as a Crystal Palace player – his first return since 2008.
And despite being guaranteed a warm reception in recognition of his 46 goals in 69 starts for Albion, the Palace player-coach admitted he must focus on the managerless Eagles' fight against relegation.
The 40-year-old, who helped fire Tony Mowbray's Baggies to the Championship title and an FA Cup semi-final, said: "It is going to be an emotional day because this is it for me.
"It will be the first time I've been back there as a player – and the last.
"This is my last season. I will be hanging up my boots at the end of it.
"I had two great years at Albion and, while I never take anything for granted in this game, I'm hoping for a good reception."
"It will be a good feeling to go back there because the club played such a special part in my career, but the Albion fans will understand that I will be doing everything I can to help Palace get a result."
Phillips has made four substitute appearances for Palace this season.
