West Brom 3 Newport 0 - match report
Saido Berahino bagged a 31-minute hat-trick as his dream full debut booked West Brom's place in round three of the Capital One Cup.
The 20-year-old completed his treble before half-time to ensure a comfortable win for the Baggies against their League Two opponents.
He netted on seven and 26 minutes before sealing his hat-trick with a penalty eight minutes before the break.
Scott Sinclair made a lively Albion debut but summer signing Matej Vydra limped off to add to Steve Clarke's injury worries.
Berahino opened the scoring on six minutes when he collected a clever pass from Sinclair and slid a low shot past Lenny Pidgeley in the Newport goal.
He missed a good chance to make it 2-0 when he picked up a Graham Dorrans pass in an inviting possession but drilled a shot into the side netting.
And Luke Daniels in Albion's goal had to make a brave low save on 22 minutes to deny Conor Washington and keep Newport at bay.
Berahino then bagged his second goal in stunning style four minutes later, collecting a square pass on the corner of the area and cutting side before rifling a superb shot into the top corner.
It was 3-0 on 37 minutes as Berahino completed his dream treble.
Craig Dawson was dragged down in the area by Harry Worley and Berahino coolly slotted the penalty past Pidgeley.
Chris Brunt fired wide with a difficult Baggies chance shortly after half-time then, midway through the second half, Markus Rosenberg missed a sitter.
He was sent racing clear by Graham Dorrans and James Morrison but he sent a tame shot wide of the far post.
He then laid on a chance for Berahino to net a fourth with a left-wing cross but his effort was blocked and Morrison's follow-up effort was also charged down.
