Peter Odemwingie aims to seal exit as West Brom head out to Austria

Albion left for Austria this afternoon with rebel striker Peter Odemwingie hoping to secure his exit from The Hawthorns before his team-mates return.

The Nigeria international, who turned 32 today, was expected to be left behind when Steve Clarke's squad departed for their pre-season tour after being made to change and train alone last week.

And the want-away forward hopes to make progress on a transfer before the Baggies fly home a week on Tuesday, with interest hotting up from other Premier League sides.

Crystal Palace remain the leading contenders for Odemwingie's signature, having already held informal discussions with his representatives and with Baggies officials.

The Eagles are expected to make a formal bid soon, but Cardiff are believed to be considering an offer, although they have yet to make contact with Albion.

And Hull boss Steve Bruce could yet revive his interest after seeing his No.1 forward target – Burnley's Charlie Austin – fail a medical last week.

Zoltan Gera was expected to travel to Austria today to continue his rehabilitation despite being out of contract.

Discussions over a new deal are ongoing as Gera recovers from a cruciate ligament injury along with midfielder George Thorne, who is also set to travel.

And young striker Saido Berahino, who suffered a knee injury at the end of last season, will take part in the trip, which includes matches against Hannover 96 and Puskas FC Academy.

Fitness coach Matt Green said: "Zoltan hasn't been able to join in any of the sessions yet but he's been out on the grass and he's been introduced to the ball work and fitness work. George is very similar to Zoltan.

"Saido is doing really well. Over the close season I brought him in for two weeks leading up to pre-season, not to drag pre-season out by two weeks but just to introduce him to things."

Contrary to weekend reports, Albion are not expected to move for Tottenham's Clint Dempsey.

Albion warmed up for their pre-season tour of Austria with a 4-0 training-ground win against Tamworth. New star signing Nicolas Anelka laid on the opening goal for James Morrison.

The others came from Shane Long, Markus Rosenberg and Berahino.
