Ben Foster backed by West Brom boss after howler

Waest Brom boss Steve Clarke today defended keeper Ben Foster after his bizarre air-shot helped Norwich to their 4-0 win at Carrow Road.

Foster failed to make contact with a Wes Hoolahan pass, allowing Grant Holt to walk the ball home for the Canaries' second goal.

Clarke said: "It's a mistake and he knows it – he didn't do it on purpose. But it was pivotal in the game because at 1-0 you could still feel the tension in the stadium. At 2-0 it released the pressure on Norwich and they ran away with the game."

Gareth McAuley's own-goal made it 3-0 and gave him a bizarre record of four own-goals in games against the Canaries for three different clubs.
