The Argentinian's debut campaign in England has been nothing short of a triumph.

And the man who found his way from Sante Fe to the Hawthorns is genuinely thrilled at this latest nod of approval from the fans.

But Yacob believes the battle for the Player of the Season accolade will come down to two team-mates.

He said: "One choice would be Ben Foster, because he gives everything to the team and makes us all feel confident.

"He has won matches for West Brom this season and I think he is a positive leader for the squad.

"My other choice would be Shane Long. He is another who plays for the team but I also think the way he plays is very clever."

Yacob was speaking through an interpreter but continues to grapple every day with the language of his adopted country.

Learning English was one of the key factors which drew him to the country in the first place.

Although he said: "I understand much more now the jokes in the dressing room although I am still nervous about saying anything myself."

He will be returning to Argentina for the first time since his move when the season is over but, before then, he is anxious West Brom press on and finish on a high note.

Yacob said: "I'm really happy with this award – it is my first here and very important to me.

"But most of all I want us to finish as high as possible and get used to being one of the top teams in the league."

West Brom fan Jack Dawson, 16, won the draw by sponsors Zoopla to present the award at the club's Great Barr training ground yesterday.
