New-boy Romelu Lukaku today revealed he has not been guaranteed a place in Albion's Premier League line-up.

The on-loan Chelsea teenager capped an impressive debut as a substitute on Saturday by scoring the final goal in a 3-0 win against Liverpool at The Hawthorns.

But the 19-year-old striker has admitted he faces a fight for a starting place after leaving Stamford Bridge for a year in search of first-team action with the Baggies.

"There are no assurances," said the Belgium international, who is competing with Peter Odemwingie, Shane Long, Markus Rosenberg, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Zoltan Gera for spots in Albion's three-man forward line.

"I just have to train hard and work hard every day and do my best every day for the team.

"I know there is big competition in the team but I just have to cope with that because at Chelsea there is even bigger competition.

"There are quality players here and there are quality players at Chelsea too.

"For me as a young player it's great to work with that type of players.

"It's good for me but also good for my education.

"Saturday was one step but one step but the next steps are coming up so I will have to keep my feet on the ground and we will see what comes."

Lukaku rejected loan offers from Fulham and QPR to move to The Hawthorns and the former Anderlecht man has revealed how ex-Baggies boss and current Chelsea chief

Roberto Di Matteo convinced him to move to the Midlands.

"He had a big say," said Lukaku. "He told me it was a warm club and that's what I needed.

"It's good to be here among people who want to help you to perform.

"That's why I've settled really well into the club."

"I have an apartment already and I am moving in next week, so it's been done really quickly.

"That should help me to settle down as well.

"It was good for me to get out of London. I am here to learn the hard way, really.

"For me as a young lad to play in the Premier League and join a club like Chelsea was really good for me and I had a good year and learned a lot.

"Now it's up for me to do well here and hopefully shine for this club."
