West Brom keeper Ben Foster today revealed how more penalty 'homework' helped him become the Baggies' spot-kick hero at Stoke.

Foster stopped Jon Walters' second-half spot-kick as the Baggies beat Stoke away for the first time since 1982.

And the former Manchester United man, who famously used video research to help him win the Carling Cup for the Red Devils in a penalty shoot-out, revealed he and goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely had prepared for Walters.

"We had done some homework and Dean Kiely showed me all the penalties Stoke have had this season before the game," said Foster. "I always knew that if Jonathan stepped up I was going to dive that way.

"There is only so much you can do because penalty-takers can always change their minds, but at least it helps to know which way they normally go.

"I think he'll admit that it wasn't one of his best penalties. Fortunately I went the right way and I think most other goalkeepers would have saved it."

Foster's spot-kick save completed a reversal of fortunes for the Baggies' on-loan keeper, whose stoppage-time error handed the Potters victory at The Hawthorns in August.
