James Morrison sweats on West Brom place despite resurgence in form

West Brom midfielder James Morrison believes his form has never been better – but admits he still is not sure of his first-team place.

In-form Morrison, revelling in a new central midfield role handed to him by boss Roy Hodgson, is still waiting to see the team-sheet.

Now one of the club's longest-serving players, Morrison is fighting to retain his place in the starting line-up from one of the strongest group of midfielders the club has ever had.

And he said: "Is that a bad thing? If we were struggling with injuries we'd all be moaning that we haven't got a big squad.

"I think it's good and it keeps the lads on their toes. I've played the last three weeks but leading up to the team being named on a Saturday I'm still questioning 'am I going to play?'

"It keeps you on your toes and you have to keep working hard in training."

It's the first time Baggies fans have seen Morrison play in a more orthodox, deeper midfield role and it has brought out a rich seam of form in the player.

He said: "My career under Roy has been stop-start but I'm playing regularly now and I feel like it's what I can do.

"I've grown up to play in central midfield and it's where I feel more comfortable."
