Zoltan Gera scored one goal and made another as West Brom's second string defeated Arsenal in front of 822 fans at the Hawthorns.

Gera's appearance in last night's Barclays Premier Reserve League clash was his first match action for more than six months.

The 45 minute run-out was also his first game since rejoining West Brom for a second spell in the summer, just days after ankle surgery.

In that time, the Hungary international created a goal for Saido Berahino to cancel out Sanchez Watt's opener for Arsenal, before pouncing on a pass from Roman Bednar to give the Baggies the lead before half-time.

Graham Dorrans completed the scoring after the break in a game that also saw Joe Mattock and Marc-Antoine Fortune on duty for Albion, with Sebastien Squillaci in the Arsenal line-up.

The hosts were behind on 12 minutes when a simple through-ball from Gunners midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup unlocked their defence.

Watt raced onto it and his shot from just inside the box squirmed through the grasp of Baggies goalkeeper Luke Daniels.

Gera's first significant action arrived on 20 minutes, when he arrived at the far-post to meet a cross from Mattock that had evaded defenders and attackers alike in the goalmouth, but his instinctive volley hit the side-netting.

Moments later, a neat move on the left almost brought rewards for the Baggies, only for Berahino to fire over after a one-two with Mattock.

But the hosts were on level terms on 33 minutes when a through-ball from Gera found Berahino, who cut inside and beat goalkeeper Vito Mannone with a powerful low shot.

Theythen took the lead 10 minutes later as Gera capped his comeback with a goal, darting in from the right flank to collect Bednar's pass and beat Mannone with a left-footed shot from 12 yards.

The Baggies then increased their lead eight minutes into the second-half, following a move that began when Bednar evaded two players and rattled the bar.

The rebound found its way to Berahino, whose cross found Dorrans and the Scot drilled home from the edge of the area.

With the game petering out, Daniels had made a smart save low down to beat away a shot by substitute Martin Angha.
