West Brom midfielder Zoltan Gera could make his long-awaited comeback in the Black Country derby on October 16.

Baggies boss Roy Hodgson hopes the Hungary international will be fit to return from an ankle injury, after the international break that follows Saturday's trip to Sunderland.

And that could mean Gera kicking off his second spell as a West Brom player in the Hawthorns showdown with Wolves.

The 32-year-old hopes to return to full training next week, after suffering a setback in his rehabilitation from summer ankle surgery.

Hodgson said: "He hasn't trained now for well over three weeks since he had the recurrence of the ankle injury in training.

"He was making good progress but he had a recurrence of his injury and, since then, it must have been a good two to two-and-a-half weeks since he trained.

"He can't go straight into a game. We will have to wait for the international break and I'm pretty confident that, come the end of the international break, he will be raring to go."
