Michael Appleton is ready to stay at Albion to work with new boss Roy Hodgson - despite missing out on the top job at the Hawthorns.
The caretaker boss will be offered a role in Hodgson's new coaching set-up, with the duo set to meet today to consider the shape of the backroom team.
But Appleton, who was placed in charge after the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo and made it clear he wanted the permanent job, is content to work under the former Liverpool and Fulham manager.
The Hodgson era got underway today with the new boss taking his first training session.
Appleton said: "I had dinner with him on Friday night and had a good chat.
"Obviously we'll be having more chats over the next few days about what happens next week.
"Roy's got a fantastic record. He's worked at some big clubs in different countries. He's got a wealth of experience and I can't wait to work alongside that type of experience.
"I had a great chat with Roy and it's up to us to get our heads together and settle the boys down because there will be some disappointed lads after the 3-3 draw against West Ham.
"Roy's told me he's keen to work with me and I'd be daft to not want to work with someone with his wealth of experience in the game. He's got as many years managerial experience as I am old.
"It's going to be fantastic. I'm really looking forward to working with him and I'm sure I'll learn lots and lots from Roy.
"I'll be like a sponge every day and take in as much information as I can, as will the players. I'm sure he'll be good for us.
"I'm hoping the experience Roy will bring to the club and the messages he can give to the players will just make them make better decisions under pressure."
Despite seeing his side squander a 3-0 half-time lead to draw 3-3 with the Hammers, Appleton enjoyed his week in charge.
He said: "I embraced it and I've enjoyed every minute of it believe it or not.
"There was a little bit of relief towards the end to get the point. We've got three fantastic games coming up, with opportunities against teams in and around us.
"I've enjoyed the week."
