Albion striker Roman Bednar has claimed he can to score the goals to keep the Baggies in the Premier League.

The Czech Republic international netted from the penalty spot in last night's reserves win over Wolves and insists he can make an impact on the team's battle for survival.

Boss Roberto Di Matteo is keen to sign a new striker before next Monday's transfer deadline but Bednar still believes he can fill the breach, after returning from a loan spell at Leicester determined to earn another chance at the Hawthorns.

He said: "I always have goals in me and if I work hard I have the belief that the goals will come. Tuesday's was my first goal this season, so I was pretty pleased with it.

"I was first-choice striker at the start of the season but Peter Odemwingie is now and that's not a problem for me. But if he is out I am ready.

"I wouldn't wish him anything bad but I am ready. This is West Brom and we want to win as a team.

"I am ready for 20 minutes, half an hour or whatever the gaffer wants me to do."

Since returning from the Walkers Stadium, Bednar has edged ahead of Marc-Antoine Fortune in the strikers' pecking order to claim a regular place among the substitutes.

And the 27-year-old said: "It's a step forward, because before I left for Leicester I wasn't even on the bench.

"I told the gaffer I am ready to fight and I am working really hard. If we are losing and he sends me on the pitch for 15 minutes that is a good sign.

"Before I went to Leicester we were winning, losing and drawing and there was no sign I was going to get on the pitch.

"I think he can see I am working really hard in training every day and playing with a smile."
