Albion pulled off their greatest ever Premier League win as three second-half goals stunned Arsenal.
Peter Odemwingie, Gonzalo Jara and Jerome Thomas struck in the space of 24 magical minutes in the second-half to give the Baggies a stunning victory at the Emirates Stadium.
It was no more than they deserved and they should have led 1-0 at half-time, with Manuel Almunia in the Arsenal goal saving a weak penalty from Chris Brunt.
But the Baggies left their hosts shell-shocked with an onslaught after the break, taking a 3-0 lead before Samir Nasri handed the Gunners hope with a 75th-minute consolation strike.
Nasri scored again in stoppage time to set up a nervous end to the game but the Baggies held on.
It was Albion's first win at Arsenal since 1983 and their first ever away win in the Premier League against one of the division's established 'big four.'
Albion made a bright start with Jerome Thomas making a jinking run down the left and Chris Brunt bursting with purpose down the right.
But neither move brought a chance and the Baggies were soon under pressure and riding their luck as Arsenal hit the woodwork.
A cross from Emmanuel Eboue found Andrei Arshavin at the far post and the Russian's flick deflected off Chris Brunt and hit the upright.
Brunt then made a crucial block to deflect Arshavin's follow-up.
The Baggies had to weather a significant spell of Arsenal pressure after that, with Samir Nasri dictating play from the Gunners' midfield.
But Albion were handed a glorious chance to snatch the lead on 37 minutes, when Brunt's threaded through-ball found Odemwingie, who was sent flying by Almunia just inside the box.
Referee Michael Oliver pointed straight to the spot and booked Almunia, but Brunt's tame penalty was saved by the goalkeeper to his right.
Albion should have led at the break but they were in a shock 2-0 lead within seven minutes of the restart.
First Arsenal old-boy Thomas skinned Bacary Sagna on the Arsenal right, cut into the box and pulled the ball back for the unmarked Odemwingie to slide the ball home.
That sent the travelling Baggies fans into raptures and they were still pinching themselves when it got even better less than three minutes later.
A clever backheel by Brunt was too good for Gael Clichy and it sent Jara clear into the box.
His shot at the near post should still have been dealt with by Almunia, but the goalkeeper made a complete hash of his attempted save and the ball squirmed in.
A nervous finish looked in store with the Gunners piling pressure on the Baggies goal.
But, almost unbelievably, the Baggies put clear daylight between themselves and their hosts with 17 minutes to go.
Brunt beat Almunia to a Morrison through-ball, reached the byline and then turned inside to fire across the face of goal for Thomas to finish with his right foot.
But the hosts threw themselves a lifeline in the 75th minute, seconds after Nasri had rattled the crossbar after a weaving run.
Arsenal found Nasri again and his footwork took him past Jonas Olsson and allowed him to curl a shot past goalkeeper Scott Carson and inside the far post.
Albion nerves increased when the officials signalled five minutes of added time.
And, a minute into that period, Arshavin turned on the edge of the box and fed Nasri to make it 3-2.
