Jamille Matt scored the only goal as he brought down Taylor Allen's corner before his half volley proved too hot to handle for Vale goalkeeper Connor Ripley six minutes after the break.
That saw Matt surpass his tally from the previous campaign to reach six goals this term in the league.
Walsall leapfrogged Port Vale to sit two points clear at the top with a game in hand and Sadler also paid testament to the 2,711 Walsall supporters who made the journey in treacherous conditions.
He said: "It was a tough game. It was very difficult and it will be difficult to go through the game at real length because the conditions had such a part to play in it.
"The first goal and set plays were always going to be hugely influential. You never know if it's good to go with the wind or against the wind and I think it played out in that manner.
"The conditions were horrendous. But to have 2,800 supporters come on a day like this and in weather like this was unbelievable.
"I don't really want to analyse the game that much. The biggest thing was the two moments that they got to share and nearly Nathan (Lowe) when he had his chance.
"But the one when Jamma (Matt) scores and then the celebrations at the end there."
