Reyes Cleary and George Hall scored their first goals for the club after the break before Nathan Lowe climbed off the bench to reach double figures for the campaign in all competitions to round off the win.

That propelled Walsall to the top of the group as they leapfrogged Birmingham City to progress to the Round of 32 as group leaders.

Rico Browne was handed his debut following his return from his loan spell at Tamworth while Oisin McEntee featured for the first time since suffering a calf injury on August 31.

Mat Sadler made 10 changes from Saturday's draw against Crewe Alexandra with only Charlie Lakin retaining his place in the XI.And first team coach Byfield feels it's a testament to the depth across the squad that Walsall produced such a comprehensive win with three goals after the break.

"It shows how strong the squad is. Testament to the boys that came in, no excuses from them regarding match sharpness and things like that.

"They've come in and I thought they were all superb to be honest. It's a tough game against League One opposition and they've acquitted themselves really well.

"We want to keep winning. We know we're not going to win every game but with this group that we have, that togetherness has come from the gaffer which has been instilled.

"We're in it together, we stick together, we encourage and we demand from each other. That runs through the whole of the club."
