How Walsall's Brandon Comley came through toughest time of career
Walsall midfielder Brandon Comley found his career at a crossroads in the winter of 2021.
He was left unregistered by Bolton Wanderers at the end of the summer transfer window, and was mercilessly thrown onto the footballing scrapheap.
Comley had been a first team regular in the heart of midfield at Colchester United just two years before, but the Montserrat international was now facing the most difficult period of his career.
"I feel like every player has an arc in their career where it goes a bit sour. Things could've been handled differently, but I am not bitter," Comley reflects.
"I just got on with it and accepted that it was part of football. If you sit in a ditch then you are just going to get buried in it.
"It felt like there was a question over my integrity of whether I actually wanted to be a footballer anymore. That was the feeling that I sensed from clubs was that they weren't sure whether I was dedicated anymore.
"That was one of the weirdest things I have ever heard because if you ask anyone about me, they know my dedication doesn't need to be questioned.
