Scunthorpe 0-2 Walsall – Player ratings

Following Walsall's 2-0 away win at Scunthorpe, Liam Keen rates the Saddlers players on their performance.

Published

Jack Rose - 8

A fairly quiet afternoon for Rose against a toothless Scunthorpe attack. His distribution was good and he commanded his area. He also made two brilliant saves, despite the efforts coming from players who had strayed offside.

Hayden White - 8

A composed performance from White who was solid defensively and added some attacking spark on the flank. His run and subsequent cross for the first goal was superb.

James Clarke - 8

A leader on and off the field, Clarke dictated well to his team-mates and handled bustling strikers that have previously caused him some issues.

Dan Scarr - 7

A very good showing from Scarr who handled his first start back from injury well. He started to lag towards the end of the game, however. Likely due to his lack of minutes recently.

Max Melbourne - 7

Another very consistent showing from Melbourne who is proving to be a shrewd loan signing. He did not offer as much going forward but he did not really need to.

Sam Perry - 8

Perry continues to show why he’s been such a revelation in this side. A good ball-winner and confident in position. A superb talent who will continue to improve.

Liam Kinsella - 8

This performance was Kinsella back to his battling best. He covered every inch of the field and sprung so many attacks by winning the ball back in midfield. His engine was the catalyst.

Emmanuel Osadebe - 9

A member of the Scunthorpe commentary team summed it up best when he said “Osadebe has been a cut above the rest.” A goal and an assist from a player really coming into his own.

Tyreik Wright - 8

Wright proved his worth at being back in the team and put in perhaps his best Walsall performance. He was electric with the ball at his feet and worked extremely hard defensively to win it back.

Josh Gordon - 8

A worthy goalscorer and an ever-present hard-working performance. Gordon had his best game for some time.

Wes McDonald - 7

McDonald was not quite as effective as his attacking team-mates but still did well – certainly not a bad performance. He may, however, need to do more in the final two games of the season with his contract up in the summer.
