The Saddlers have had a gruelling schedule of Saturday-Tuesday games for much of this season due to the late start to the campaign.

Dutton has rarely had a week without a Tuesday game since he took charge but with their next game arriving on Good Friday – at home to Harrogate – the manager wants to make the most of the time.

“You know what a slog it’s been with the amount of fixtures we’ve had, there’s been hardly any in-depth coaching time with the boys,” he said.

“We have to now get the balance between rest and recovery, and emotional rest and recovery, because it’s a tough shift for these lads at the minute.

“They’re in a relegation battle so every game weighs heavy on their mind. We have to rest and recover physically and mentally and then prepare accordingly for Harrogate.”

Striker Josh Gordon added: “Games have been coming thick and fast so it’s been hard to get much structure in training.

“Obviously we have to recover as much as possible and then we only have one, maybe two, days of training to fit in as much as we can.

“It will benefit a lot of us and allow us to get our fitness as good as possible going into the next game.”
