Brian Dutton: I'm the right man for Walsall
Brian Dutton insists he is still the right man for Walsall after a damaging 1-0 defeat to struggling Barrow.
In a dull affair at the Banks’s Stadium the Saddlers tasted defeat due to Josh Kay’s 87th minute winner, in an evening where neither side shone in front of goal.
Walsall supporters voiced their anger on social media after the toothless display and when asked if he is the right man for the job, Dutton said: “It’s a fair question but I feel 100 per cent confident in my own ability to take this football club forward.
“It’s never down to me who makes the decision on who is the right man for the football club but I won’t wilt.
“I’m full of self confidence and I know that given time I will take this club forward to where it needs to be.”
When asked if he’s concerned about a relegation battle, Dutton added: “You have to be concerned, of course.
“The form is one win in 14 now, so you have to be concerned.
“But we have enough quality in this group of lads to move things forward, we just need to get that result on the board to move in the right direction.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Alfie Bates insists the squad have let themselves down with the result and performance.
He said: “It was a good performance at Cambridge, everyone was on it, but we’ve let ourselves down tonight.
“We need to put it right.”
