The Lincoln City loanee is still in the infancy of his career as he earns a run of games at Walsall.

Melbourne, a former Albion youngster, has played as a centre-back, left-back and left-wing-back in his short career but admits he is still working on where he is best suited.

When asked what his best position is, Melbourne said: “I’ve been asking myself that question for over a year now and with the games I played at Lincoln and the games I’ve played here it’s still a question that I’m still not too sure on.

“I’ve always said that I was a left-back, however my manager at Lincoln said he sees me more as a centre-back. It made me think ‘maybe I am a centre-back’ but at the current moment I don’t think I have the physical presence or experience. If I had to choose I’d say left-back.”

Melbourne impressed at left-wing-back at the weekend and he insists it is a role he can excel in.

“It’s a position that I have played in the past but not played for quite a few years now,” he added.

“It’s a completely different role but something I am capable of doing as the games develop. As I get more match fit hopefully I can become more effective there.”
