No stopping for Walsall man Mat Sadler just yet
Player-coach Mat Sadler is not ready to make a decision on his future on the field just yet – as he plans to keep playing for as long as Walsall need him.
The defender turns 36 at the end of this month after a long career that started in 2002.
Sadler moved into his player-coach role this season and has been a success as part of Darrell Clarke's team, but a decision is still to be made on his playing days.
When asked if he's thinking about his future on the pitch, he said: "I will continue to do the job to the best of my ability.
"I've been really fortunate with injuries, so my body is fine.
"I'll keep playing for as long as I'm required to play and see where that takes me.
"I'm not going to make any rash statements on it. I've really enjoyed the last week playing the three games.
"My body feels great, which I'm lucky with. As long as I'm not letting anyone down then I'll keep going."
The veteran has been used sparingly this season and has often come in when others are injured.
Despite that he has impressed with his performances, including in his three starts in the last three games while captain James Clarke is sidelined.
"I probably am getting a little bit slower but I'm lucky that I haven't had any bad injuries, I got them out the way earlier in my career," Sadler added.
"For the last 15 years I've been absolutely fine so fingers crossed that continues.
"I don't hurt too much in the morning, although I do make out to the Mrs that I do to get a bit of sympathy.
"I'm alright and I'll keep going for as long as I'm needed."
