Walsall 1 Oldham 1 – Player ratings
Following Walsall's 1-1 draw with Oldham, Liam Keen rates the Saddlers players.
Liam Roberts - 7
With the pressure of no back-up goalkeeper on the bench, Roberts did well. He made a few key saves in the second half and was not at fault for the goal.
Hayden White - 6
In his first full 90 minutes for Walsall it was all-round a better performance from White, but a mistake does not feel far away. He allowed his marker to get beyond him too easily for the goal.
Dan Scarr - 7
Scarr was in the wars throughout the game but handled it well. He kept Danny Rowe quiet for the most part. Dominant in the air.
Mat Sadler - 7
An assured and experienced showing from Sadler, filling in for captain James Clarke.
Zak Jules - 8
Jules showed why he was missed during his injury with another superb display. He took his goal well in the six-yard box and was confident defensively.
Liam Kinsella - 7
A battling display from Kinsella who always offers heart and a full-blooded performance. At times he could have looked after the ball slightly better, but overall he was solid.
Alfie Bates - 7
The youngster proving his worth again with a confident display against some strong opposition. He pinged some nice passes around, but in similar fashion to Kinsella, gave it away at times.
Jack Nolan - 7
By far Nolan’s best performance in a Walsall shirt. His deliveries on the wing and from set pieces were, for the most part, very good. He carried the ball well and did the simple things well. He offers a potential option in midfield, now.
Josh Gordon - 7
Gordon looked far more comfortable playing centrally and he linked up well with Adebayo. There is more to come from him, however, as he gets back to his best form following his injury.
Wes McDonald - 7
It was not McDonald’s best performance, but certainly not his worst. He sprung to life at times and looked dangerous, with one first half shot flashing wide. On the whole, however, the service into him was not good enough.
Elijah Adebayo - 6
Adebayo’s work rate is never in question and he did not stop running. The quality of his play, at times, was lacking however. He looked slightly frustrated with some of the service into him. There will be better days for the towering forward.
