Clarke has been without Gordon, James Clarke, Danny Guthrie and George Nurse as of late.

Striker Gordon, suffering a medial knee injury, was originally ruled out until ‘at least December’ after being forced off against Colchester last month.

But Clarke – whose charges host Oxford tonight in the Papa John’s Trophy (7pm) – said: “It’s slightly improving.

“We have George Nurse, Danny Guthrie, James Clarke. Some key players out but none of them will be long term.

“Josh Gordon as well. He is getting assessed to see whether we can step up his rehab.

“So hopefully some good news on the horizon in the next two, three or four weeks.”

Meanwhile, as they carry on without Gordon for now, Clarke wants more goals – starting against the U’s this evening.

“We’re working opportunities and trying to do a lot more work on that and be better at scoring goals from set-pieces,” he added.
