Walsall's Zak Jules is back and performing well
Walsall manager Darrell Clarke understands Zak Jules’ frustration at being left out of the side – but praised his impact since returning to the fold.
The defender started the season well with two impressive cup performances – before then being used sporadically in League Two as Dan Scarr and James Clarke were preferred at centre-back and George Nurse getting the nod at left-back.
Jules has said he felt unlucky not to keep his place after the start he made.
Now, with Clarke and Nurse sidelined with injuries, Jules has stepped up in recent weeks and manager Clarke has heaped praise on him.
“Julesy has been outstanding in the last four games and if anybody deserves to be frustrated at being left out it is Zak Jules,” he said.
“He’s earned his stripes at the minute. He’s performing well and was performing well before hand but you can’t always keep players happy.”
Meanwhile, Clarke also believes the club is heading in the right direction after a win over Crawley Town on Tuesday night.
He said. “That’s one defeat in 16 now. Six wins, nine draws and one defeat so if that’s not going in the right direction. Yes, we would have like a few more of those draws to be wins but that’s a good run that we’re on.”
