Bescot Banter: The unbeaten streak continues!
After playing another two games in a week, the Saddlers have stretched their unbeaten run to twelve league games as their strong run of form continues to place them alongside some of the biggest clubs in the game.
Despite winning just two of their opening seven league matches heading into this weekend's clash with last season's National League champions Barrow, Darrell Clarke's side remain undefeated in the league and have entered some promising performances with the odd lucky break thrown in along the way.
Whilst the goals aren't exactly free flowing, the Reds are still scoring at just over a goal a game in the league and have been amongst the more creative sides in the competition, although not quite testing the opposition 'keepers as much as we'd like.
As the hectic schedule continues we hope to see the manager offer a little more playing time to some of the players often named on the bench along with those on the fringes of the matchday squad.
Amongst a group of promising youngsters attacking prospect Jayden Campbell has started the season in fine form for Miguel Llera's Under-18s and may be that little unknown quantity that could help the Saddlers to unlock a few of their opponents' backlines.
It's good to see the manager willing to switch formation depending on the opposition. As the Saddlers faced Bradford City on Tuesday evening he set his side up in a 4-4-2 formation, and may well have taken all three points were it not for a combination of Liam Roberts' individual error and a somewhat harshly awarded spot kick.
Heading into the clash with Stuart McCall's Bantams on the back of a goalless draw with Exeter City, the Saddlers did well to deny their at times rampant opponents as they picked up another welcome awayday point, which could well prove crucial when we reach the business end of the campaign.
With striker Josh Gordon set to be out until December it was great to see the club snapping up a couple of attack-minded loanees as the transfer window slammed shut on domestic Deadline Day.
The news that both Adan George of Birmingham City and Jake Scrimshaw of AFC Bournemouth have arrived free of cost to the Saddlers just goes to show that some club officials do recognise the importance of the football pyramid and aren't simply out to secure as much money as they can.
There may yet be hope for the beautiful game!
