Walsall players volunteer for 'cost reduction programme' to ease financial burden of coronavirus pandemic
Walsall chairman Leigh Pomlett has revealed that everyone at the club, including the players, have taken part in a 'cost reduction programme' to save funds.
As with teams up and down the country, the Saddlers are striving to survive the coronavirus pandemic without income generated by fan footfall at the Banks's Stadium.
Now, Pomlett has announced that everyone at Walsall have made sacrifices to help the club through this period.
"We've implemented a cost reduction programme here, which has included everybody – and I include the players in that," Pomlett said.
"They have been remarkably understanding of the circumstances of the club and have offered support financially, which again I'm very grateful to them all.
"I've met with a number of the players and thanked them for their support and they get it. They have been extremely good in response to the club's plight."
Meanwhile, only two per cent of season ticket holders have asked for a full refund after Pomlett urged supporters who could afford to, to leave the money in the club.
"Since we put the compensation package to you for the season tickets, so far only two per cent of the fan base have asked for a full refund, which is extraordinary," Pomlett added.
"Thank you for that response, it is very, very important that the money does not suddenly surge out of the club.
"I fully understand those that need them but I'm grateful to those that have left the money in the club."
