Good headache for Walsall boss Darrell Clarke
Walsall manager Darrell Clarke admits his players are giving him selection headaches after a positive start to the 2020/21 season.
Following two good showings against Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers in the Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy, the Saddlers bagged three points against Grimsby Town on the opening day of the League Two campaign.
Clarke has used 19 players already in those three games and when asked if he will have a selection headache, he said: “I will and when I get it right, I will give myself a pat on the back and when I get it wrong there will be a thousand (people) tell me I’ve picked the wrong team, but that’s football.
“We’ve got a good squad, I will be utilising the squad and working on it for different games and different reasons. Hopefully I get my game plans right.
“Always the next game isn’t it, just win the next game – 12 months ago, 14 months ago is a long time ago. There were a lot of changes at the football club so we will just keep trying to play the next game and not look two or three weeks down the line, all I’m looking at is Harrogate next week at Doncaster Rovers’ ground and hopefully we can get another three points.”
